This was one of those dishes remembered by some of the military men in my life from their days, abroad. I looked around online and created my own version of this rather unusual breakfast fare. I was skeptical that it would go over well, so I made it along with muffins and other breakfast items, but, everyone had a taste and everyone ended up loving it, even the kids! Read more ! Ingredients:
for meat marinade |
2lbs sirloin or higher quality steak, sliced into small bite sized, thin, pieces(can also sub game like bison, venison, elk, etc) |
3/4 cup rice vinegar |
1t worcestershire sauce |
1t oyster sauce |
2t honey |
2t garlic, minced(about 6 cloves)(yes, really, and there's more in the rice! ;) |
1t kosher or sea salt |
2t fresh ground black pepper |
for garlic fried rice |
about 3-4 cups leftover or cooked rice(brown or white is fine) |
2 green onions, chopped(or a small shallot, minced) |
2t garlic, minced |
also needed |
1-2 eggs per person |
butter to fry eggs in |
1/4 cup beef stock |
Directions:
1. For Marinade 2. Combine all ingredients in large bowl and whisk or stir well, to combine. See Photo 3. Add beef pieces and toss to coat, well. 4. Let marinate at least 24 hours, up to 48 See Photo 5. To Prepare 6. In hot, lightly oiled, heavy skillet or stir fry pan(I used cast iron), add meat and stir fry until done, about 3-5 minutes, is all. 7. Remove meat from pan and set aside. 8. Add beef stock to skillet to deglaze pan. 9. Immediately add left over marinade to skillet and let simmer to reduce to a slightly thickened sauce, about 5 minutes. 10. Pour into serving pitcher or individual small bowls. 11. In same pan, add cooked rice, garlic and green onions. 12. Stir well and cook until lightly coated with remaining sauce and warmed through. 13. Set aside and keep warm. 14. In another pan, fry eggs, preferably sunny side up, in butter. 15. Season with salt and pepper. 16. To Serve 17. Plate rice, top with meat, then top that with 1-2 fried eggs. 18. Serve with the reduced marinade. |
