Kellogg's Breakfast heirloom tomatoes are lovely golden orange & have a wonderful flavor. This makes a brilliant orange Bloody Mary that is a glorious special cocktail. We're growing KBs & KBX this summer so am stashing this recipe from Sunset for use on a lazy Sunday brunch.
Ingredients:
1 lb tomato, fresh kellogg's breakfast
1/2 cup vodka (gin ok too)
2 tablespoons lemon juice, fresh
1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon celery seed, crush slightly
hot sauce, to taste
Directions:
1. Cut Kellogg's Breakfast or similar tomatoes in half crosswise. Press tomatoes, cut side down, through a colander or a coarse wire sieve set over a bowl to collect juice (you'll need about 1 1/2 cups); discard skin.
2. Mix the 1 1/2 cups tomato juice, 1/2 cup gin or vodka, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, about 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste), a pinch to 1/4 teaspoon celery seed, and hot sauce to taste. Pour into ice-filled glasses.
3. Garnish with a celery stick or green onion. Sprinkle with fresh-ground pepper.
