Another great recipe from my neighbors mother. It is a bit time consuming but well worth the work. I am posting the recipe here just as June had written it. I know it is missing some filling ingredients amounts and I am going to find out what it takes. I have never made this only eaten it,
Ingredients:
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon yeast
3 egg yolks
3 tablespoons sugar
4 cups flour
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
melted butter
1 beaten egg white
brown sugar
nuts, chopped
1/2 cup butter
1 lb powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
heavy cream
Directions:
1. Scald the milk then let cool to luke warm. Add the yeast, then add egg yolks that have been beaten with the sugar.
2. Mix together the flour, shortening, and salt. Add to the above mixture. Cover and place in the refridgerator over night. In the morning divide the dough into 4 parts and roll out into an oblong (no size was stated).
3. Brush with melted butter, beaten egg white, brown sugar and chopped nuts. Fold into 3rds. Let rise for 2 hours on a baking sheet.
4. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes., Frost with the powder sugar icing.
5. To make the icing mix together the melted butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and enough heavy cream to reach your desired consistency.
