My husband's best friend John Fine gave me this recipe. The first time I had them at his home, I had to have the recipe. It is a very pretty dish and the best tasting baked beans I have ever had! Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef, browned (optional) |
1 lb bacon |
1 large vidalia onion, diced |
1 red pepper, diced |
1 green pepper, diced |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1/4 cup ketchup |
1 (16 ounce) bottle hickory smoke flavor barbecue sauce |
1 teaspoon mustard |
3 teaspoons molasses |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon chili powder |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
16 ounces butter beans (i like these so i double) |
16 ounces black beans |
16 ounces kidney beans |
31 ounces pork and beans |
1 (12 ounce) can beer |
Directions:
1. Brown and crumble ground beef if using. 2. Open all cans of beans and pour in a strainer to drain liquid. 3. Add all ingredients to large casserole dish. 4. Use some of the beer to pour in the empty bottle of BBQ sauce to shake up and get all the contents out. 5. Add the drained beans. 6. Mix well. 7. Lay Bacon all over the top. 8. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. (1 hour is fine, but they actually taste better the longer they cook. I try to start mine very early and just let them cook in a slow oven after the initial hour as long as time allows.). |
