Jewish Apple Cake Ala Grossinger's

I adapted this recipe from The art of Jewish Cooking by Jennie Grossinger of the famous Catskills Grossinger's Resort This cakes is very simple yet delicious. Make sure that you use fresh, crispy apples! I use the kitchenaid for the whole thing.
Ingredients:
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
6 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
6 apples
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
2. Spray 9x9 glass pan with nonstick spray and set aside.
3. Sift flour, salt, baking powder and 3Tb of sugar into a bowl.
4. Mix in 1/2 ( 1/4 cup ) of the butter.
5. Beat the egg and milk together, then add.
6. Mix all well.
7. Pour the batter ( it will be thick) into the prepared pan.
8. Peel and slice apples-then place over batter.
9. Sprinkle with cinnamon and the other 3 TB. sugar.
10. Melt the remaining butter and pour over top.
11. Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
