I used to buy Wick Fowler's chili seasonings instead of making chili from scratch, but once I figured out how much chili powder and other seasonings to use to give the chili the flavor I wanted, I was off to the races! Read more ! I have made a few modifications to a basic chili recipe, and I've found something my whole family enjoys! Ingredients:
1-1/2 lbs. ground beef (chili ground is best) |
1 lb. pork sausage |
1 sm. onion, chopped |
1 clove garlic, crushed |
1 8-oz can tomato sauce |
1 15 oz. can crushed tomatoes |
2 cups water |
1 cup canned refried beans |
1 can ranch-style beans (or pinto beans) |
4 tbsp. ground ancho chile powder |
1 tsp. cumin |
1 tsp. oregano |
1 tsp. paprika |
dash cayenne pepper, to taste |
2 tbsp. brown sugar |
1 tsp. salt |
Directions:
1. In a Dutch oven, brown meat; drain fat. Add onion and garlic, and cook until onion is translucent. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer at least 30 minutes - better if cooked longer. 2. If you use blended chili powder (which already contains cumin and oregano), you may need to decrease the amount of the other spices. |
