From What's Cooking in Portugal by Saul Krieg. Porto, a vintage fortified wine, is made from grapes grown in the legally defined area 50 miles above Oporto, Portugal. Cobblers were popular drinks in the 19th century, consisting of a base spirit (originally some form of wine), sugar and fresh fruit. Ingredients:
1 teaspoon orange juice |
1 teaspoon grand marnier |
port wine (porto) |
fresh fruit or berries, for garnish |
Directions:
1. Stir the orange juice and Grand Marnier into an Old Fashioned glass filled with cracked ice. Stir well, and fill to the top with porto. 2. Decorate with fruits and berries of the season. 3. Serve with a straw and a spoon. |
