This is the recipe of Anna Bosnjak, cherished neighbor and mother of four wonderful daughters. It's a traditional Christmas Cookie brought to America by Croatian and Serbian Immigrants. Unfortunately it requires a special jazzbow cookie mold that is prized by their owners and handed down from generation to generation. I believe you could use any 1/2 inch deep mold if needed. Ingredients:
1 lb butter, softened |
1 lb confectioners' sugar (10x) |
1 1/2 flour, all purpose |
1 lb walnuts, ground |
4 egg yolks, beaten |
1 teaspoon clove, ground |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon nutmeg, ground |
3 tablespoons cocoa powder |
1 fluid ounce whiskey (optional) |
Directions:
1. Cream together Butter and Sugar. Mix in the other ingredients until a tender dough is formed. 2. Coat the cookie mold with granulated sugar (this helps release dough from the mold). Tap out the cookie and place on a cookie sheet. If dough is too soft, chill it for about 30 minutes then try to mold these again. 3. Bake at 375 degrees F for about 15 minutes. |
