This is a recipe made by a very special friend of ours. Although my version never seems to be quite the same (or quite as good), it's still my favorite quick meat sauce. Exceptional with pasta. Leftovers make a great Italian sloppy joe on garlic bread. I make two batches and freeze the sauce for a busy night. Ingredients:
1 medium onion, chopped |
2 tablespoons garlic, chopped (jarred or fresh) |
3 italian sausages, casing removed and crumbled |
1 lb ground beef |
2 (24 ounce) jars prego chunky garden combination pasta sauce |
1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes (optional) |
1 cup parmesan cheese, grated |
flour (optional) |
Directions:
1. Saute the onion until tender, add the garlic and cook for a couple minutes in a large pot. Remove and set aside. 2. Brown the sausage and ground beef until fully cooked. Drain and return the meats and onion/garlic mixture back in the pot. 3. Add the sauce and cheese and simmer for 30-45 minutes. 4. If a thicker sauce is desired, mix a little flour w/ water and add to sauce, simmer another five minutes. |
