This recipe is handed down from my husband's family. Originally from Jamaica..Ive never made them but had them from another family member.. Yummy Ingredients:
2 tablespoons oil |
1 pound lean minced beef |
1 medium onion, finely chopped |
1 clove garlic, crushed |
1/2 pound tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped |
1 whole red pepper minced or 1 teaspoon crushed peppers in vinegar |
1/2 thyme |
2 eggs, slightly beaten |
1 egg white, beaten until foamy |

Directions:
1. Heat oil in a large frying pan and add the beef and cook it until brown 2. Add onion and garlic and cook until onion is tender 3. Add tomatoes, salt and pepper to taste, hot pepper and thyme 4. Stir and cook for 5 minutes 5. The mixture should be quite dry 6. Remove from heat and stir in beaten eggs 7. Return to heat and cook for 2 or 3 minutes longer 8. Cool to room temperature 9. Roll out any flakey pastry 1/8 inch thick 10. Cut into 5 inch circles 11. Place 2 to 5 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto one side of each circle 12. Fold over into a crescent 13. Seal the edges by pinching with finger or crimping with a fork 14. Brush with beat egg whites and prick the tops to let the steam escape 15. Drop in deep fat until golden brown 16. 350 degrees |
