I LOVE trying differant flavor bread and rolls. Tender chewy rolls with pizza sauce and basil for extra excitement. Prep time does not include rising. Ingredients:
1/4 ounce active dry yeast, one package |
1 teaspoon sugar, plus 2 tablespoons, divided |
1/4 cup warm water, 110 to 115 |
1 cup pizza sauce |
1/4 cup butter, plus 2 tablespoons, melted and divided |
1 egg |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon dried basil |
3 cups all-purpose flour, up to 4 cups |
Directions:
1. In large bowl, sissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in warm water. 2. Let stand for 5 minutes. 3. Add pizza sauce, 1/4 cup butter, egg, salt, basil, 2 cups flour and remaining sugar;. 4. Beat until smooth. 5. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a firm dough. 6. Turn onto floured surface. 7. Knead until smooth and elastic, about a6-8 minutes. 8. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease top. 9. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. 10. Punch dough down. Turn onto lightly floured surface; divide into 15 pieces. 11. Shape each piece into 2 ball. 12. Place 2 apart on creased baking sheets. 13. Cover and let rise until dough doubles, about 30 minutes. 14. Bake at 400 for 10-12 minutes or until top is golden brown. 15. Remove from pans to wire racks. 16. Brush with remaining butter. |
