It's guaranteed to improve your Italian. Ingredients:
2 1/2 lbs fresh italian sausage |
2 large onions |
2 bell peppers (i use 1 red, 1 green) |
2 tablespoons olive oil |
16 ounces whole tomatoes, drained discarding liquid |
1 tablespoon dried italian seasoning |
1 pinch sugar |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven 325 degrees. 2. Cut Italian sausage into 2 pieces. 3. Bake in oven 30 minutes. 4. In the meantime cut onions into 1/4 slices. 5. Slice bell peppers into 1/2 slices. 6. Saute onions in olive oil just until tender; set aside. 7. In same skillet, saute bell pepper slices just until tender. 8. Add drained tomatoes, Italian seasoning and pinch sugar to pan; stir to mix. 9. Add onions and cooked sausage pieces; mix. 10. Cover with foil; bake 45 minutes. 11. Uncover and bake additional 10-15 minutes. 12. Tip: I use a black iron Dutch oven with lid not only to saute, but for the final baking process also. |
