This seems so simple, but I never thought to do this as an appetizer until I stumbled across the idea in an old magazine. Ingredients:
1 egg |
8 slices bacon, cooked, drained and crumbled |
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs |
2 teaspoons onion, grated |
dried basil to taste |
1/2 cup sour cream |
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
2 pounds lean ground beef |
1 pound sweet italian sausage links |
1 pound hot italian sausage links |
marinara sauce |
Directions:
1. In bowl, combine egg, bacon, breadcrumbs, onion, basil, sour cream, pepper, salt and ground beef. 2. Form into meatballs (on the small side) and arrange on rimmed baking sheet. 3. Bake at 350 degrees until browned and cooked through. 4. Meanwhile, cook Italian sausage links, keeping sweet and hot links separate. 5. Slice links into 1 inch thick slices. 6. Heat marinara sauce. 7. Arrange meatballs and sausage link slices in large serving platter. 8. Spoon marinara sauce into bowl in center of meats. 9. Serve with toothpicks. |
