What would be known as Fried Apples. Done the simple way my grandmother used to fix them. Not a lot of extra ingredients, just southern fried apples. Ingredients:
6-7 medium apples, variety of choice. |
3/4 cup white sugar |
4 tbsp (1/2 stick) butter |
1/2 tsp salt |
water |
Directions:
1. Peel, core and cut apples into thin wedges. See Photo 2. Place in a large iron skillet with enough salted water to fill. 3. Cover and cook on medium high heat. Leave lid partly open to vent steam and prevent boilover. See Photo 4. Cook until fork tender but not mushy. Drain the water and return skillet to heat. 5. Add sugar and butter pats on top of apples See Photo. Turn GENTLY to coat. 6. Cook uncovered until sugar begins to carmelize See Photo. Stir GENTLY until browned on all sides. 7. Remove from skillet and place in an oven proof dish so they can be kept warm. 8. Serve when ready. |
