Ingredients:
5 1/2 cups flour |
1/2 cup sugar |
3 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/4 cup butter |
2 cups buttermilk |
1 egg |
Directions:
1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in mixing bowl. 2. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. 3. Combine buttermilk and egg. 4. Add to dry ingredients. 5. Stir until blended. 6. Turn out on floured board. 7. Knead until smooth. 8. Divide dough in half and shape each half into approximately 5 wide x 7 long. 9. Put both loaves into one well-greased 13 x 9 x 2 pan. 10. Score a 4 cross on top of each loaf. 11. Sprinkle with flour. 12. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes . |
