a quick bread with no yeast or abm. from jean pare. Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour |
2 tablespoons white sugar |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon salt |
6 tablespoons cold butter or 6 tablespoons margarine |
2 cups buttermilk |
Directions:
1. in mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. 2. stir thoroughly. 3. cut in butter till crumbly,. 4. add buttermilk. 5. stir just enough to moisten. 6. turn on lightly floured surface. 7. knead 8 to 10 times. 8. put in greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan. 9. bake at 350 for 1 hour or until browned and inserted toothpick comes out clean. 10. this may also be baked in a casserole or on a baking sheet. 11. VARIATION;add one cup raisins or currants. |
