My mother in law made this bread all the time. She made it with many of her Indian/ Burmese dishes. I make and serve these with rich stews like Burgundy Beef and Barley or Creamy Chicken noodle. I like it best with beef soups and dishes. Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour |
1 cup all purpose flour |
dash of salt |
water(about a cup or less) |
oil |
Directions:
1. Mix together wheat flour and all purpose in medium mixing bowl or food processor.. 2. Add salt , 1 tsp oil and water(a little at a time until you get a heavy but pliable dough) 3. Keep dough covered with a damp towel and let sit for a few minutes while you heat the oil.. 4. Make small balls and roll out into 4 to 5 diameter circles onto a flour surface . 5. Fry in hot oil. 6. The poori should puff up a little. 7. Cook until golden brown (just a few seconds). 8. Flip and cook the other side. 9. Drain on paper towels. 10. Sprinkle with salt if desired. 11. Serve with Soups, stews, or curries. |
