A basic chappati recipe. it's another recipe my friend Punti taught me. He is an indian chef, who is very patient with me Ingredients:
8 ounces wheat flour |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 pint water, warm |
3 tablespoons ghee, butter |
oil |
Directions:
1. In a bowl, mix together flour, salt and a little water at a time. 2. Add 1 tbls. ghee. 3. Knead with hands until dough is soft and all water used. 4. Let stand for 20 minutes. 5. Heat a greased heavy griddle or frying pan. 6. Shape dough into small tennis ball sized pieces, dust with flour and roll out 7. until about 5 inches in diameter. 8. Place on hot griddle and cook for a few minutes on each side. 9. When bubbles appear on the surface, turn and cook other side again. 10. Gently press down edges with a clean cloth, so bread cooks evenly. 11. When it has brown spots, bread is ready. 12. Remove from pan, smear with ghee. |
