This is a classic recipe that dates way back. I got it from my Aunt Lois who says it comes from a 1918 Fannie Farmer cookbook. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
2-1/2 cups flour |
1 cup granulated sugar |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
2 eggs well beaten |
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract |
1 tablespoon milk |
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
Directions:
1. Cream butter. 2. Add sugar, eggs, milk and extract. 3. Mix and sift all dry ingredients then add to first mixture. 4. Toss 1/4 of mixture onto floured board and roll as thin as possible. 5. Shape with a small round cutter dipped in flour. 6. Place close together on a buttered cookie sheet then bake for 10 minutes at 350. 7. Gather up trimmings and roll with another portion of dough. 8. While baking cookies keep remaining dough in a cool place. |
