Soft and moist. Easy and cheap. What more could you ask for? I found this in my grandma's recipe box. It comes from a newspaper clipping, and the date was 1954. The best frosting to use is the caramel frosting. Ingredients:
2 cups flour, sifted |
2 tablespoons cocoa |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon clove |
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon allspice |
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
2 eggs |
1 1/2 cups applesauce |
Directions:
1. Sift first nine ingredients together. 2. Add the eggs one at a time mixing well after each egg. 3. Add applesauce alternately beat mixture until smooth. 4. Pour into greased 13x9x2 inch pan or 2 8-inch cake tines. 5. Bake in pre-heated oven at 350 for 50 minutes. 6. Cool then frost. |
