Idaho County Applesauce Cake

Soft and moist. Easy and cheap. What more could you ask for? I found this in my grandma's recipe box. It comes from a newspaper clipping, and the date was 1954. The best frosting to use is the caramel frosting.
Ingredients:
2 cups flour, sifted
2 tablespoons cocoa
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon clove
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups applesauce
Directions:
1. Sift first nine ingredients together.
2. Add the eggs one at a time mixing well after each egg.
3. Add applesauce alternately beat mixture until smooth.
4. Pour into greased 13x9x2 inch pan or 2 8-inch cake tines.
5. Bake in pre-heated oven at 350 for 50 minutes.
6. Cool then frost.
