My hubby loves soul food as he's from the southeast and his heritage. Ingredients:
2 cups yellow corn meal |
2 tablespoons flour |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1-1/2 tablespoon sugar |
2 teaspoons salt |
1/4 cup finely chopped onions |
black pepper to taste |
boiling water |
1 egg, beaten |
1/4 cup milk |
oil for frying |
Directions:
1. Heat oil in fryer to 375°F. 2. Mix all dry ingredients except the baking powder. 3. Pour in enough hot water to make a thick mush, making sure all ingredients are moistened. 4. Add milk, egg and baking powder and mix thoroughly. 5. Drop hush puppies into oil (use a melon baller if you have one) and fry until golden brown. 6. Good to serve with Catfish, or any other soul food. |
