This is a very old recipe of my father's grandmother's. The onions give a nice flavor to these little bites of pure pleasure! I am glad someone saved her recipes. I remember eating these as a child and not being able to get enough of them! Ingredients:
2 cups cornmeal (yellow or white) |
1 tablespoon flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 egg, beaten |
6 tablespoons onions, finely chopped |
2 cups buttermilk |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients. 2. Add onion, milk and egg. Stir to blend ingredients together. 3. Drop by spoonfuls into deep, hot grease. cook until golden brown, turning occasionally. Lift out with slotted spoon. Drain on a paper towel. 4. Note: Serve warm. |
