C. D. was the father of the famous Langhorne sisters, including Nancy, Lady Astor. He contributed this to a cookbook called Key to the Pantry which was published in Danvllle, VA in 1898. Taken from Virginia Cookery Past and Present Cooking time is a guess on my part. Ingredients:
1 cabbage |
1 red pepper |
bacon, several slices |
2 cups boiling water |
Directions:
1. Take a cabbage, wash well, and cut up into pieces about the size of your hand. 2. Put them into the boiling water, or maybe a little more if your cabbage is a big one, along with 5-6 slices bacon. 3. Add a pod of red pepper, cover, and cook slowly until done. 4. This will never disagree with you. |
