Hot Quinoa Breakfast Cereal |

High protein breakfast. Welcoming to the still sleepy palate. Ingredients:
1 cup quinoa |
2 cups water |
1/2 cup apples; thinly sliced |
1/3 cup raisins |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
pinch of allspice |
1/4 brown sugar ( or honey if you prefer) |
maple syrup (amount depends upon personal taste) |
raw walnuts |
Directions:
1. Rinse quinoa and add to water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer for 5 minutes. Add apples, raisins, cinnamon, brown sugar, and allspice (maple syrup if you prefer) and simmer on medium heat until water is absorbed. 2. Roast walnuts for 5 to 8 minutes. 3. Place in your quinoa cereal in a bowl and sprinkle with the roasted walnuts. You can also garnish with any fruit. I prefer it without milk though it can be served with milk or cream . Delicious with soy or rice milk. 4. If you have never cooked with quinoa, please note: Rinse the quinoa until water runs clear. I purchase a rinsed quinoa and still give it a quick rinse. If you fail to rinse the quinoa it will have a very bitter foul taste. |
