This dandy recipe really hits the spot on a cool day. Ingredients:
1 cup flour |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup sugar |
6 tablespoons cocoa |
1/2 cup milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 tablespoon melted shortening |
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
2 tablespoons butter, melted |
1 1/4 cups hot water |
Directions:
1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and 2 tablespoons of cocoa. 2. Stir in the milk, vanilla and melted shortening. 3. Add to the dry ingredients. 4. Mix well, then stir in the nuts. 5. Pour into a 9 baking pan. 6. Mix brown sugar with 4 remaining tablespoons of cocoa. Sprinkle over the batter in the pan. 7. Pour on the melted butter, then pour on the hot water. 8. Bake 350 for 40 mins. 9. Serve hot. |
