Grandmother use you make me every year,for cold season,for when I had a cough. Ingredients:
now here is the hard part: grow your horehound herb. |
3pts.boiling water |
1 qt. loosely packed horehound leaves and stems |
4 cups sugar |
1 and 1/4 cups corn syrup (or) 1/2 honey (which she did) |
1 tablespoon butter |
Directions:
1. Pour boiling water over the horehound leaves and stems 2. Steep for about 5 minutes 3. The tea should be bitter tasting and dark ,but not black 4. Strain 5. Measure 2 cups of horehound tea 6. Add the sugar,corn syrup(and ,or, Honey)and butter 7. Bring to boil and cook stirring occasionally,to hard,crack stage 300 degree 8. Pour into buttered 15 1/2x10 1/2 pan,score with knife 9. Break into squares 10. Note:If there is residue forming around the side of the pan during boiling,Skim off 11. Yields 2 and1/2 pounds |
