Clafouti (the proper spelling is Clafoutis) is a wonderful and easy French custard-like dessert. It puffs as it cooks and then falls in the middle and becomes more dense as it cools, so it's best served warm from the oven. Read more . Sprinkle with powdered sugar or serve with ice cream. Traditionally made with cherries, but really any fruit that you prefer will be delicious. Ingredients:
4 eggs |
1/3 cup honey |
1 cup milk (it works with low-fat but whole is much better - or even half-and-half cream if you really want to go rich!) |
1/4 cup flour |
1 1/2 cup nectarines, cut into thin slices (about 2 large nectarines) |
softened butter (for preparing the baking dish) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375F. 2. Butter the baking dish well - (I used a deep dish pie pan to avoid any spill-overs) 3. Arrange the sliced nectarines in the dish. 4. Whisk the eggs and honey together till smooth. Add milk and flour (mix them together before adding to the egg/honey) and whisk until smooth again. 5. Slowly pour over the fruit, making sure that the fruit is not completely submerged under the batter. 6. Bake 30-40 minutes (or until a knife inserted in the custard comes out clean) |
