This sauce is terrific on BBQ'd chicken, ribs, pork and as a cold dipping sauce. My dear husband can't keep his hands out of the kettle when I'm cooking up a batch of this. Yeah, I admit it's sometimes a bit easier to run to the store and get a bottle of BBQ sauce, but this has more of an omph . Enjoy! :-) Ingredients:
1 small onion, minced |
4 garlic cloves, minced |
1 tablespoon butter |
2 cups ketchup |
3/4 cup honey |
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar |
1/2 cup worcestershire sauce |
1/4 cup brown sugar |
3 teaspoons chili powder |
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper |
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/4 cup red wine |
salt (to taste) |
ground pepper (to taste) |
Directions:
1. Melt butter in a large kettle. 2. Brown onion and garlic together. 3. Add all other ingredients and mix well. 4. Simmer for approximately 35-45 minutes. 5. Brush on meats or serve cold as a dip. 6. Keeps in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. |
