Fast, easy, and portable way to make yogurt where ever you go Ingredients:
1 quart milk (whole, 2%, 1%) |
1/4 cup plain yogurt |
Directions:
1. Also needed:. 2. 3 1 qt jars (plastic or glass). 3. I thermal cooler bag or small ice chest. 4. Heat milk to 180 degrees (or until bubbles form around the edge if you don't have a thermometer). I use a Ball quart container and heat in the microwave for about 3 minute Cool milk to 140 degrees or until it feels warm to the touch. Stir in yogurt. Fill 2 remaining jars with boiling water. Place all 3 jars or containers in thermal bag or ice chest. Cover with towels to maintain heat. Set aside for 6 hours. I have made this while camping and used a hand warmer for added heat. 5. Remove finished yogurt from bag, stir, and refrigerate. Add flavorings such as pureed fresh or frozen fruit or your favorite jam. This is so good it's hard to remember to save 1/4 cup to start the next batch. |
