These are sooooo yummy- just like what you get from a street vendor or at the fair... maybe better! Don't be shy- try different flavour combos! Ingredients:
1 batch pizza dough (see my recipes- use basic or whole grain) |
10 cups water |
2/3 cup baking soda |
kosher salt |
1 egg yolk |
1t water |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450 F. 2. Divide dough into 8 portions 3. Roll each piece of dough into (about) 18 inch lengths and fold into pretzel shape, pressing lightly to join. 4. Bring water and soda to a boil. 5. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper and lightly grease. 6. Drop pretzels in water one at a time for 30 seconds. 7. Remove to baking sheet, brush with yolk and water mixture, sprinkle with coarse salt and bake for 10 -15 minutes, or until golden brown and shiny. 8. Let cool on a rack for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy! 9. **Flavour boost: Add to dough: 2 T fresh finely chopped rosemary, 3 cloves minced garlic, 1/4 cup fresh grated parmesan. Top pretzels with salt & garlic powder. |
