Homemade Gingerbread - With Applesauce |

A homemade gingerbread recipe that substitutes applesauce for butter, this drastically decreases the calories without affecting the taste or texture. Ingredients:
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour (sifted if possible) |
1 egg |
1/2 c. applesauce |
1/2 white sugar |
1 c. molasses |
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda |
2 tsp. cinnamon |
1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger |
1 tsp. ground clove |
1/2 tsp. salt |
1 approximate cap-full of vegetable oil |
1 c. hot water |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven 350 degrees. 2. Mix wet ingredients (except the hot water) together and set aside. 3. Mix the dry ingredients 4. Make a well in the bottom of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients. 5. Mix well 6. Add hot water and mix again. 7. Grease a 9 inch square or circular pan and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Check the middle of the bread with a toothpick, if it comes out dry- it's done! |
