This is a classic Southern snack. Easy to make and tastes delicious with a slight heat-or more if you add more cayenne! Ingredients:
2 lbs pecan or walnut halves |
2 egg whites |
2 tsp water |
1 cup sugar |
1 tsp cinnamon |
a dash of salt |
1/2 tsp cocoa-or more |
cayenne pepper to taste |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 2. Beat egg whites and water together. 3. Stir in pecans and toss quickly. 4. In the meantime, have mixed the sugar, cinnamon, salt and cocoa. Pour over the pecans and toss quickly. 5. Pour pecans into a greased baking sheet. 6. Bake about 30 minutes, stirring every ten minutes. 7. Using a spatula, loosen the pecans from the sheet immediately. Cool. 8. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to two weeks. 9. You can use any nuts you like, really. I love cashews done this way, too. |
