I got this recipe from a friend. These are quick and easy to make. Please do not substitute sweet milk for the buttermilk. (It is okay to make your own by adding a Tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to milk and let it sit 5 minutes.) Please note that the amount of flour is approximate. If your dough is too sticky you can add more by sprinkling it on top while kneading. Ingredients:
2 cups flour (approximately) |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/4 cup shortening or 1/4 cup butter |
1 cup buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425. 2. Mix first 5 ingredients with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the size of small peas. 3. Stir in the buttermilk. 4. Knead for a couple of minutes on a lightly floured surface. 5. Roll or pat out dough for biscuits. 6. Bake for 10-15 minutes until lightly browned. |
