This is great for a breakfast or brunch. Fixed the night before and popped in the oven in the morning while you are busy with other things. Prep time does not include refrigeration time. Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar |
1/2 cup butter, melted |
3 teaspoons cinnamon, divided |
3 tart apples, peeled and sliced |
1/2 cup raisins |
1 loaf french bread, cut in 1-inch slices |
6 large eggs |
1 1/2 cups milk |
1 tablespoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. Combine brown sugar, butter, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Add apples and raisins, toss to coat well. 2. Spread apple mixture evenly over bottom of 13x9-inch pan. Arrange slices of bread on top. 3. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, and remaining cinnamon until well blended. Pour over bread, soaking bread completely. 4. Cover and refrigerate 4 to 24 hours. 5. Bake, covered with aluminum foil, in a preheated 375° oven for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake 5 minutes. Remove from oven; let stand 5 minutes. Serve warm. 6. For an eye-catching presentation, loosen edges of baking dish and invert onto a large serving platter. |
