This recipe is more than 65 years old and what a delight at the holidays! It is a side dish that is incredible with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's celebrations. This will take you back to those warm family gatherings at grandma's house on a cold and snowy winter's day. My mother always made this for me and every time my wife makes it for me it brings back loving memories of her. Ingredients:
3/4 cup chopped maple walnuts |
1 cup hot water |
1 (16 ounce) can canned cranberries |
1 (6 ounce) package cranberry-raspberry gelatin |
1 (13 1/2 ounce) can crushed pineapple |
2/3 cup port wine |
1 (8 ounce) package philadelphia cream cheese |
1 cup sour cream |
Directions:
1. Combine cranberries and pineapple in a bowl and toss lightly. 2. Mix Jello with 1 cup of hot water, stir until dissolved. 3. Add the Port wine and the fruit mixture and pour into a 9X13 inch glass pan and refrigerate until set firmly (about 3 hours). 4. Let the cream cheese soften at room temperature while waiting on the Jello to firm. Blend with 1 cup of sour cream. 5. Spread the softened cream cheese evenly onto the Jello mixture and top with chopped walnuts. 6. For best results chill about 1 hour before serving. 7. Will keep under plastic wrap about 3 days. 8. Enjoy and Merry Christmas! |
