Heavenly Onion French Bread Casserole |

Thick delicious googy side-dish stuffing mixture dates way back to my college roomy. Thank you Linda. Ingredients:
2 tbsp. butter or oleo |
3 medium sweet spanish onions, sliced |
8 oz. fresh mushrooms sliced |
1 cup shredded swiss cheese |
1 can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted |
1 can evaporated milk (5oz) |
2 tsp. soy sauce |
8 slices french bread (about 3 in. thick) |
8 slices swiss cheese |
Directions:
1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. 2. Saute onions and mushrooms until tender. Place these in a 9 x 13 baking dish. 3. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top. 4. Lay bread on top. 5. Combine soup, milk, and soy sauce. Pour over bread. 6. Top with cheese slices. Cover and refrigerate over night or at least 4 hrs. 7. Bake loosely covered at 355 degrees for 30 minutes. 8. Uncover and bake 15 - 20 minutes longer or until heated through. 9. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. |
