My family's favorite spaghetti sauce. Ingredients:
3 tablespoons olive oil |
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped |
2 onions, finely chopped |
2 celery ribs, finely chopped |
2 carrots, finely chopped |
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef |
1 cup milk |
2 (28 ounce) cans tomatoes, with juices |
1/4 teaspoon dried hot red pepper flakes (or to taste) |
1/2 teaspoon dried basil |
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano |
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley |
1 teaspoon salt (or to taste) |
1/4 teaspoon pepper (or to taste) |
Directions:
1. Heat oil in a deep large skillet or dutch oven. 2. Add garlic, onions, celery and carrots. 3. Cook until vegetables are tender, about 8 minutes. 4. Add meat and brown. 5. Add milk. 6. Cook, covered, 20 minutes, over medium-low heat. 7. Break up tomatoes. 8. Add to meat mixture with juices. 9. Add remaining ingredients. 10. Cook uncovered 1 hour. 11. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. |
