Ingredients:
1 (16-ounce) package dried black-eyed peas |
4 cups water |
1 medium onion, chopped |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
1 (1-pound) ham steak, cut into 1/2-inch cubes, or 1 ham hock |
4 whole jalapeƱo peppers (optional) |
Directions:
1. Bring first 6 ingredients and, if desired, jalapeƱos to a boil in a Dutch oven; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 1 hour or until peas are tender. |
