A wonderful version of the scone for chocolate lovers. Perfect for anytime of day. Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed |
1 cup chocolate chips, semisweet |
1/2 cup hazelnuts, chopped |
1 egg |
6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold |
1/2 cup buttermilk |
1/2 tsp baking soda |
1 1/2 tsp baking powder |
1 1/2 tsp almond extract |
1/4 tsp salt |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and lightly butter a 9 inch circle in diameter, in the center of a baking sheet. Mix the flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Cut the butter into 1/2 inch cubes, and place evenly over the flour mixture. Cut butter into the flour mixture (either with a pastry blender or two knives) then stir in egg, buttermilk, almond extract and add to the flour mixture. Stir to combine. Add in the chocolate chips and hazelnuts. (This dough will be tacky). Place the dough onto an 8 inch diameter circle on the baking sheet and cut into 8 wedges using a serrated knife. Bake for 17-19 minutes, (or until the top is browned slightly). Then, cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Remove the scones and place on a wire rack to cool, then cut into wedges. Serve warm, or when fully cool, store in airtight container. |
