A tasty hamburger stew to which a white sauce is added. From The More-with-Less Cookbook. Ingredients:
1 lb lean ground beef |
2 cups tomato juice |
1/2 cup chopped onion |
1 cup potato, diced |
1 cup carrot, diced |
2 teaspoons salt |
2 tablespoons butter |
2 tablespoons flour |
2 cups skim milk (or regular milk) |
Directions:
1. In large pot, brown ground beef. 2. Drain fat. 3. Add tomato juice, onions, potatoes, carrots and salt. 4. Cover and simmer until vegetables are tender (about 20 minutes). 5. In a saucepan, melt butter. 6. Stir in flour. 7. Add milk slowly, stirring with a whisk. 8. Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens. 9. Stir white sauce into first mixture. 10. Serve. |
