I have gotten tired of purchasing bread products at the grocery store due to the number of added ingredients a person cannot even pronounce. I have stated making just about everything from scratch if I can and here is my first attempt at hamburger/hot dog buns. Read more . They are really good and the bread can be made completely in the bread machine for loafs if you want to. I served them at a party and they were a total hit. Ingredients:
1 cup water |
1 egg |
2 cups all purpose flour |
1 cup whole wheat flour |
3/4 tsp salt |
1/4 cup shortening |
1/4 cup sugar or honey |
3 tsp yeast |
1 tbs vital wheat gluten (optional) |
2 tbs melted butter |
Directions:
1. Place all ingrdients in the bread pan per manufacturs instructions 2. For Hamburger Buns: 3. Choose dough setting and press start. 4. When bread machine beeps signaling the end of the dough setting, remove dough from pan and place on a floured surface. Divide dough into 8 equal portions and roll into balls. 5. Transfer dough balls to a 9x13 greased baking sheet. 6. Baste dough with butter and let rise until doubled in size. 7. Bake for 10-12 min at 400 degrees. Keep your eye on them, some times they can cook really fast. 8. For Hot Dog Buns: 9. Choose dough setting and press start. 10. When bread machine beeps signaling the end of the dough setting, remove dough from pan and place on a floured surface. Divide dough into 12 equal portions and roll into 10 - 12 inch ropes. Fold ropes in half so you have a bun shape that would fit a hot dog. 11. Transfer buns to a 9x13 greased baking sheet. 12. Bast dough with butter and let rise until doubled in size. 13. Bake for 10-12 min at 400 degrees. Keep your eye on them, some times they can cook really fast. |
