With my in-home day care, I am always looking for some good home-cooked meals to feed the kids. This was a hit and the kids wanted me to make it again the next day! Ingredients:
4 cups frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed |
3 tablespoons vegetable oil |
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper |
1 pound ground beef |
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder |
1/2 teaspoon onion powder |
1 cup water |
1 (.75 ounce) packet dry brown gravy mix |
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish. 2. Mix hash brown potatoes, vegetable oil, and black pepper in a bowl; press into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. 3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef, garlic powder, and onion powder in the hot skillet until beef is browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. 4. Mix water and gravy mix into the cooked beef; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover skillet, and simmer until water evaporates, about 5 minutes. Fold in 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese. Spoon beef mixture onto the potato crust. 5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese and bake until cheese is lightly browned, about 5 more minutes. |
