This can also be shaped into a loaf and baked. I am also posting a couple of alternative glazes, so you can choose the one that you prefer! This is a Lancaster County Amish/Mennonite specialty! Everyone who comes here raves about the ham balls/hamloaf! I am posting a couple variations, so try them till you find your 'fit!' ENJOY! Ingredients:
1 1/4 lbs cooked ham, ground |
2/3 lb fresh ground pork |
2/3 lb ground beef |
2 eggs |
1 cup tomato juice |
1 cup cracker crumb |
2 tablespoons minced onions |
2 tablespoons green peppers, diced fine |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 cup packed brown sugar |
1/2 cup vinegar |
1/2 cup water |
2 teaspoons dry mustard |
Directions:
1. Combine ham, pork& beef. 2. Add eggs, tomato juice, crumbs, onion, green pepper& salt. 3. Shape into balls, (slightly larger than golf balls). 4. Place in a 9x13 baking dish. 5. Bake 350 for 1 hour. 6. Meanwhile, combine sauce ingredients in a small saucepan. 7. Cook& stir until sugar is dissolved. 8. Pour over hamballs. 9. Bake 30-45 minutes longer. |
