My mom found this on the back of a noodle package. It has been a favorite ever since. I have four children and this is one of the few meals they all like. We usually quadruple it and make a double batch to serve and a double batch to freeze. It is a great casserole to share with others like new moms or families in need since it is different than the tomato-based pastas and chicken dishes. Ingredients:
1/2 of a 1 lb. package wide egg noodles |
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine |
1/2 cup chopped onion |
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup |
1/2 cup sour cream |
1 1/2 cups cubed cooked ham |
1 cup shredded swiss cheese |
1 (3 ounce) can french-fried onions |
Directions:
1. Prepare noodles according to package directions: drain. In medium skillet, melt butter. Add onion; cook until tender. Blend in soup and sour cream. Add noodles, soup mixture, ham, cheese and onion mixture; mix well. Pour into lightly buttered 9-inch square baking dish. Cover. Bake in a 350 degree oven until hot, about 35 minutes. Uncover. Top with fried onions. Bake 5 minutes longer. Refrigerate leftovers. |
