A nice brunch item! Frozen Puff Pastry is our friend! Ingredients:
all-purpose flour |
2 sheets frozen puff pastry |
1 egg yolk |
1 t warm water |
1-2 t prepared mustard |
1/4 pound thick cut deli ham, diced |
4 ounces gouda or cheddar cheese, shredded |
Directions:
1. Sprinkle the work surface with a little flour and set the puff pastry out to thaw for at least 15 minutes 2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees 3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper 4. In a small bowl, mix egg yolk and water to make an egg wash 5. When dough is pliable, unfold and cut each sheet into 4 squares 6. Spread a little mustard in the center of each, leaving a half-inch border 7. Divide the ham and cheese among the squares 8. Brush a little egg wash around the edge of the squares 9. Fold each one in half, crimping them closed with the tines of a fork 10. Poke two or three ventilation holes in the top of each pastry 11. Transfer to the baking sheet, then brush with remaining egg wash 12. Bake for 18-20 minutes, until the surfaces are golden and the tips are toasted brown 13. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving |
