Nice make-ahead dish for a weekend brunch. Use a different cheese if you prefer. Recipe only called for a sharp cheese, but it came up on here as sharp cheddar. Ingredients:
16 slices sandwich bread, crusted |
butter |
8 slices sharp cheddar cheese |
8 slices baked ham or 8 slices boiled ham |
6 eggs |
3 cups milk |
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard |
1/2 lb mushroom, saute'ed (or 1 8oz. can) |
1 cup corn flakes, crushed |
1/2 cup butter, melted |
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Put 8 slices buttered bread on bottom of well-greased 13x9 baking dish. 3. Top each slice with cheese and ham. 4. Put other 8 slices on top-buttered side up. 5. Mix eggs, milk, and mustard. Pour over all. 6. Cover and refrigerate overnight. 7. In the morning, place mushrooms on top, then sprinkle mixture of crushed cornflakes and melted butter on top of all. 8. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. |
