I grew up eating homemade biscuits slathered in apple butter. I always have a supply whenever the craving hits. It recently occured to me that the stuff must be loaded with sugar. At any rate, I found this recipe in local recipebook from my hometown. I use splenda in place of sugar. Ingredients:
4 cups unsweetened applesauce |
3/4-1 cup sugar |
2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon ginger |
1/4 teaspoon allspice |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
Directions:
1. In heavy 1 1/2 quart saucepan, combine all ingredients. 2. Bring to a boil, stirring often. 3. Boil for 1/2 hour. |
