Pears in caramel is really easy to make and finished with a splash of your favorite light liquer for adults or red wine sauce or as is makes you look like you busted your butt on it. And you didn;t. (Shhh I won't tell) Served warm with ice cream on the side is yummy too. Ingredients:
4 pears |
1 cup superfine sugar (lacking this run some granulated sugar through your food processor to make superfine, if using a blender do not let the sugar get too hot while grinding or it will melt) |
2 cups dechlorinated water (to dechlorinate water let stand in an open container overnight for the chlorine to evaporate) |
Directions:
1. Remove peel from the pears and keep on the side. 2. Remove stalk and core the pears 3. In a small pan over very low heat, cook the sugar until it is golden, stirring constantly (note melted sugar is extremely hot and will burn you badly be careful and don;t walk away from it, sugar goes from golden brown to burnt in a matter of seconds) 4. pour water into another pan 5. add the peels and boil for 10 minutes 6. discard the peels and gradually pour the water into the sugar mixture 7. poach the pear halves in this syrup until soft 8. serve cold but not chilled or warm w/ice cream |
