Grog came about when Admiral Sir Edward Vernon, while trying to cut costs and conserve supplies on the open sea, diluted the crew's rum with water. Eventually, the crew realized the drink tasted better served hot. For a more flavorful drink try this recipe using apple juice! Ingredients:
2 ounces dark rum |
3 ounces apple juice |
1 lime, juice of |
1 teaspoon honey or 1 teaspoon brown sugar |
2 whole cloves |
1 slice fresh ginger, thin slice |
1 small cinnamon stick |
Directions:
1. Add all of the ingredients to a small saucepan and heat gently to dissolve the honey. 2. When hot, strain into a heatproof mug. |
