I think I got this recipe from a magazine's microwave section (biiig microwave craze in the 80's) where you were supposed to microwave the burgers and the toppings. (Eeek!) I of course ignored this microwave nonsense and just grill them. The fresh red pepper and spinach really add to the whole flavour. Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef |
1 onion, minced |
1 egg |
1/2 cup breadcrumbs |
salt and pepper |
1/4 cup light soy sauce |
1 tablespoon honey |
1 1/2 tablespoons dry sherry |
1/4 teaspoon ginger |
1 garlic clove, crushed |
1 red onion, sliced |
2 red peppers, sliced |
6 spinach leaves, shredded |
Directions:
1. Combine beef, onion, egg, salt and pepper, and crumbs. 2. Combine soy sauce, honey, sherry, ginger and garlic. Heat on low - medium in small saucepan till smooth and hot. 3. Let cool and add to beef mixture, mix well and shape into 8 patties. (Make a bit more sauce if it looks like it might need it ( hard to tell I know) Once I think I used too much beef and they had way too little teriyaki taste). 4. Grill on barbecue on med high to high heat till burgers are done (Approx 20 min? I usually eyeball them or use a meat thermometer). 5. Serve on buns with slices of fresh red onion, pepper and spinach. |
